On Trend: Styling Tips From Some of our Fave Fashion Bloggers

Saddle Shoes and Aaron Rolled Skinny

One of our favorite blogs, Refinery29.com compiled some great styling tips stolen from their favorite fashion bloggers. In turn, we’re going to borrow from Refinery29.com and update with HABITUAL’s take on each look!

Tip #1 - Slim Down Knits With A Wide Belt, by Kimberly Pesch from Eat.Sleep.Wear

Habitual-style: Looking to slim your figure even more? Pair an oversized sweater with our High Waist Skinny Stretch jeans to elongate your legs.

Tip #2 - Match Neon With Grays, by Susanna Lau from Style Bubble

Habitual-style: You can match bright tops with any neutral color, for example the Alice Skinny in Sahara or Chocolate, to tone down the neon. Or flip it around, and wear a neutral top with a bright pigment die like our Audrey Skinny in Sunrise.

Tip #3 - Knot Your Blouses by Kelly Framel from TheGlamourai.com

Habitual-style: We agree with Kelly, sometimes a loose blouse looks funny tucked in. Try knotting flimsy tops at the waist and get an even more retro-feel by pairing it with a flare like our Harlow Flare.

Tip #4Grow Up Your High School Gear by Arielle Noa from Something Navy

Habitual-style: Wear your Varsity jacket or school girl sweater with an extra dark or black denim like our Alice Skinny in Licorice to make sure you don’t end up looking like a teenybopper, or show off your schoolgirl saddle shoes with a cropped jean like our Aaron Rolled Skinny and a simple navy cashmere tee.

Bands We Love: Vivian Girls

Posted by The E on January 10, 2012

Vivian GirlsWe can’t stop listening to Vivian Girls, a band composed of three girls from Brooklyn. They are named after the story written by famous outsider author, Henry Darger.  Their sounds are a mix of punk and “psychedelic”; and their music videos have a cool, care-free, retro tone. One of our favorites is one of their newest songs from their Share the Joy album, “Take It As It Comes.”

Happy listening!

On Trend: Harrison Ultra Hi-Rise

Habitual Harrison Ultra Hi-Rise Flare in Serene

As the trend for pant rise continues to climb, we have released our super high-waisted Harrison Ultra Hi-Rise Flare, which hugs the hips almost up to the belly button. The Harrison is a brand new body style in the HABITUAL line, and also happens to be on the inside cover of our Spring 2012 look book. To style pants like this, you don’t need to over-do it – let the pants do most of the talking. Try an airy top in a solid color like coral with minimal jewelry. You also won’t need to worry about having the perfect shoes, because the pants will cover them, but make sure they are the right height so the hem doesn’t drag on the ground.

Tops: J.Crew Silk pintuck blouse in neon rose (left), Chloe Pussy-bow silk crepe de chine blouse (right)
Jeans: HABITUAL Harrison Ultra Hi-Rise Flare in Serene at DNA Las Vegas or Chicago, or at Fred Segal Girl.
Bracelet: Kenneth Jay Lane alligator bracelet
Shoes: See By Chloe leather and wood sandal in Nude

On Trend: Duck Boots

Duck Boots

If you consider yourself in the “older generation” category, you might be rubbing your head as we say that those old L.L. Bean duck boots are now considered hip. GQ and Refinery29 say the nearly century-old duck boots are back in style for men and women! We love that the boots are not only considered “in” right now, but also incredibly practical during these winter months. Your feet won’t get wet or cold, while you pull off the retro and utilitarian look at the same time – the best of both worlds.

And looking to brighten up your wardrobe with more color this spring? L.L. Bean says they are coming out with new bright blue and pink leather boots (probably not a style that was “in” back in 1912).

Obsession: La cerise sur le chapeau

La cerise sur le chapeau hat

La cerise sur le chapeau logo

During our last trip to Paris, we stumbled across the most charming hat workshop, La cerise sur le chapeau. (La cerise sur le chapeau means Cherry on the Hat in English, and we love how that’s incorporated in their logo!) Located in the 6th arrondissement, right by Saint Germain des Pres, this shop brings you back to the days of the Rat Pack and Bonnie and Clyde. But, we all know the Parisians are among the top fashionistas of the world, so La cerise sur le chapeau also makes sure to add a contemporary touch to their designs. Each hat is hand-made and you can personalize the colors and details, so you’ll leave the store with your own unique hat. Ideally, we’d love to have a hat for each color in our coated denim collection!
