Required Reading: Seasonzine

Winterzine Cover

Just in time for the start of spring, Winterzine, the third installment of a new quarterly publication dedicated to celebrating the seasons called Seasonzine, just launched this month. Each issue of Seasonzine features season-inspired stories, photographs and illustrations from 30+creators from across the country. The creators behind this new “zine” are actually two childhood friends, Dwight and Christine, who are California transplants living in Brooklyn. These California-blooded friends decided they needed to forget about the harsh winters and start finding inspiration instead. With the help of friends and family, they were able to self-publish what they call a “yearbook” of each season full of gorgeous spreads and heartfelt stories. We absolutely love taking in the season-inspired photographs the most in each issue!

On Trend: Gucci Fall 2012 Ready-To-Wear

Posted by The E on March 28, 2012

Gucci Fall 2012 RTW

This latest women’s collection is all about confidence and romance, and we are loving the ‘dark glamour’ of Gucci this season! Frida Giannini’s Fall 2012 ready-to-wear collection features tons of super luxe velvet in dresses, skirts and pants, and a super-rich color palette with deep sea greens, blues and blacks. This collection is luxurious and understands print stories. Style.com reports the mood, not unlike at her men’s show last month, was dark—with rich tapestry jacquards, plush velvets, a hothouse floral printed on a ground of black, and a palette that revolved around plum, bottle green, espresso, and jet. We could go on, but basically we just LOVE it all! Here are some of our favorite looks.

Alabama Chanin

Posted by The E on March 26, 2012

Alabama ChaninWe have been following this line for a while now and they have such a great story. Alabama Chanin is a product line started by Natalie Chanin, which makes limited-edition handcrafted products by using new, organic and recycled materials. They are committed to something called the cottage industry, which means they employ locals that live in and around Florence, Alabama – a community that struggles with unemployment. We admire Natalie’s commitment to helping the community and of course her design aesthetic. You can clearly see the time and work put into the details. Watch Etsy’s video on this amazing success story.

Bands We Love: The Limousines

Posted by The E on March 23, 2012

The Limousines

What started as a friendly internet correspondence eventually turned into this American indietronica band called, The Limousines.  One in England, one in California – the instrumentalist Giusti would send beats to songwriter and vocalists Vicotrino and Victorino would then send back lyrics, and so forth until they finally met in person in 2007. They just wrapped up their European tour with The Sounds at the beginning of the month. Until they play in LA, we’ll keep listening to our favorite two tracks – “Very Busy People” and “Internet Killed the Video Star”.

Made in the USA: Pinkham Millinery

Pinkham Millinery in Portland, Oregon

Spring is in the air and what better way to accessorize for those warm sunny days than with a timeless handcrafted millinery hat? Dayna Pinkham, founder of Pinkham Millinery and one of the West Coast’s top milliners, adds a modern flare to elegant styles of past eras.  Her collection of hats are handcrafted out of her Portland, Oregon studio where the hats are steamed and shaped over wood blocks before being finished with fine hand stitching. Pinkham’s hats have frequented the Kentucky Derby, Baltimore Preakness, and Britain’s Royal Ascot and Newmarket horse races.

Pinkham Millinery

We love Pinkham Millinery’s line of felt hats ranging from the classic Beret Cap to the wide brimmed Large Bonnet Fedora. The collection of felt hats start at $275.00 each and can be ordered by contacting the studio directly.

Interested in learning how to design and create your own millinery hat? Dayna even hosts Intro to Millinery and Private Instruction classes in Portland where participants can create their very own one-of-a-kind hats!

Who's Got The Habit: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

Posted by The E on March 19, 2012

Rosie Huntington-WhiteleyModel and Transformers: Dark of the Moon star, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley was spotted wearing the Habitual Addison Moto jeans in Onyx, while shopping in NYC. Although we think Rosie always looks fabulous, we especially loved how she put this look together. She paired the jeans with a red leather jacket, black booties and an oversized bag – a perfect on-the-go, yet incredibly stylish look.

Thanks to our friends at Denim Blog for spotting this first!
