Color Story: Angelina Skinny in Ballet

Angelina in Ballet

It’s might seem a bit odd that we are talking about Spring and Summer already, but in the fashion world, you always have to be thinking ahead of the trends! We wanted to share with you a sneak peek of “What’s in Store” this Spring/Summer 2013, and the below color story serves as a big part of the collection’s inspiration. You’ll find a lot of pinks in the collection, and this color story specifically serves as the inspiration for the paleness you’ll find in our Angelina Skinny in Ballet. We can’t wait to show you even more of the collection. Take a peek at some new washes on our Pinterest and we’ll slowly start adding color stories to our inspiration board too – keep your eye out!

The Voice, Cassadee Pope in Amalia Hi Rise Zip Skinny in Licorice

We thought it would be appropriate to bring back this “Who’s Got The Habit?” post, after Cassadee Pope (Team Blake) just won this season of “The Voice” last night! Last month, Cassadee was seen wearing our Amalia Hi Rise Zip Skinny in Licorice during her performance of Maroon 5’s “Payphone.” Below is our favorite performance from this season, when she performed Miranda Lambert’s “Over You,”  which was written by her coach Blake. What was your favorite song Cassadee performed this season?

5 Questions: Victoria Sánchez-Lincoln, Fashion Director of Real Simple

Posted by The E on December 12, 2012

This week’s 5 Questions, we sat down with the Fashion Director of Real Simple, Victoria Sánchez-Lincoln.  As Fashion Director, Sánchez-Lincoln oversees the fashion department, which includes shaping the magazine’s monthly Style coverage, conceptualizing stories and overseeing features across the brand’s multimedia platforms.  In addition, Sánchez-Lincoln develops fashion editorial for Real Simple’s special publications, Real Simple Family and Real Simple Weddings.

Prior to joining Real Simple, Sánchez-Lincoln served as Fashion Director of Special Issues for InStyle, where she oversaw the fashion content for InStyle Makeover, InStyle Hair and InStyle Weddings. Previously, she was Fashion Director of Latina Magazine for six years, where she forecasted and interpreted seasonal trends.  She began her career as a designer and buyer in New York, and entered the publishing industry at Mode Magazine.

Learn more about Victoria and the sweet tooth habit she kicked with a little help from her husband below! And how chic does she look in her photo?! No wonder she went from assistant to senior fashion editor in less than two years!

New York or Los Angeles, and why?

Def NYC! I have been living here for 17 years, and I am constantly discovering new things about the city that excite me. NYC is so chic, multicultural and innovative. I also love that I don’t have to drive anywhere. I just take the subway or hail a cab!

Give us a sense of your personal style?

My style is lady-like meets Fort Greene, Brooklyn. I am very feminine—yes, I love ruffles, bows, and flow-y pretty pieces—but I like to add a fun color, some leather, unique jewelry, or a cool shoe to give a little edge and balance out the girly look.

You’re best known for being a fashion expert, but what do you consider your greatest talent?

Hands down: organization. I like things organized and well placed. Obviously, I belong at Real Simple!

What’s your daily habit?

It used to be NesQuick until my husband staged an intervention. That’s been replaced with something sweet at 4 pm.

What’s one thing in your closet you could never give up? And what’s your go-to piece in the closet right now?

I could never give up my boldly printed 70′s Leonard vintage dresses that I got from my great aunt. They’re perfect to throw on when I don’t know what to wear but need to look great. Plus, they are always flattering—I consider them to be my version of a L.B.D. But my go-to item right now is my pair of Stuart Weitzman over-the-knee flat boots. They are comfortable to walk around NYC and also have that edge I like to add to my feminine look.

BONUS: What’s your best tip for styling this winter?

It has to be to invest in a statement coat. I own a few and regardless of what I wear underneath—leggings, skinny jeans, a dress—an amazing coat always makes me look instantly pulled-together.

Nylon Pop Up

This holiday season, NYLON is hosting a Pop-Up Shop in New York, which is quite the unique VIP shopping experience. It started last Friday, and since you’ll find some of our favorite merchandise there, we stopped by and took a few photos on the opening day! Nylon has created a space that makes shoppers feel as though they are on the set of an exclusive NYLON photo shoot.  When we walked into the space NYLON truly made it feel like the pages of the magazine came to life – the merchandise is set up amazingly! They also created a custom bar that features everything you need to complete DIY fashion projects and the latest beauty trends. We had so much fun – it’s open until December 18, so if you are in the area be sure to stop by!

Obsession: Illustrated Tees by Joana Avillez

Posted by The E on December 5, 2012

Joana Avillez Tees

We’ve already expressed our adoration for Bill Cunningham several times on The Habit, but another fashion icon that we put at the same level is Grace Coddington, former model and the current Creative Director of Vogue. We adore them so much, that we would actually think about wearing them.

With the help of illustrator Joana Avillez, style site Refinery29 has created drool-worthy tees donning two of fashion biggest icons. Stemming from Avillez’s commissioned series of fashion icon and fashion editor illustrations for the site, the shirts capture Coddington’s flaming red hair and platform shoes and Cunningham’s recognizable blue jacket, bike and camera in true form.

Are you a ‘Bill’ or a ‘Grace’? For true fashion lovers this question can be a hard one.  Still can’t decide which one is for you? There’s nothing wrong with supporting an artist and buying both!
