Obsession: Denim Nails

Posted by The E on February 28, 2013

Denim Nails

Getting creative has gotten a whole lot easier with Pinterest, especially when it comes to nail art!  Instead of spending your cash at a nail salon, spend the extra time on your nails to create some unique designs.  We’ve pretty much all seen the dip your nails in different colored water technique but how about using plastic wrap to create that fab denim/marble look?

Here’s What You Do:

1)      Paint your nails with your favorite base color and let it dry.

2)      Tear a piece of plastic wrap into 10 small pieces and bunch into little balls.

3)      Paint your nails with a second color – BUT before letting it dry- dab your nails with the plastic wrap to pick up some of the first color.

4)      Tah-Dah!!  You get Denim/Marble looking nails. Be sure to paint on a top coat to keep from chipping.

Is it just us, or do these nails look like our ‘Almas’ Marbled skinny jeans??  Pre-order these jeans on Nordstrom to match your fab new denim nails!

On Trend: Milan Fashion Week

From left: Versace’s animal punk bright fur; Fendi’s brightly hued tribal bags; Jimmy Choo’s crystal-studded high-heel pump; Dolce’s deliciosly decadent cardinal-red lace finale; Dolce’s saintly handbag (photo & caption credit)

This Fall/Winter 2013, it seems like bright colored fur prints and bags will be all the latest fashion.  Versace showed off an electric-yellow zebra stripped coat perfect for catching anyone’s attention on a gloomy day. If you don’t feel like attracting too much attention with a zebra yellow coat, how about toning it down with an animal print bag like Fendi’s pictured above?  This would be a fabulous accessory to make any neutral outfit stand out.  If brightly colored animal prints are not your thing, than you can still be glam with studded shoes and bags . Studded bags have been around for quite a while, but now the fierce decorations are going to be seen more on shoes.  Jimmy Choo’s black pumps feature crystal studs giving the shoes some sparkle without completely going over the top.

Bands We Love: Imagine Dragons

Posted by The E on February 21, 2013

It was only a year ago that the band members of Imagine Dragons were couch surfing and surviving off of Del Taco before exploding onto the music scene. The indie-rock band was first recognized nationally in November of 2012 when their single “It’s Time” was certified platinum by the RIAA. “It’s Time” gained the attention of Hip-Hop producer Alex Da Kid, who then got the band their first deal with Interscope Records.

So what kind of sound results from an indie-rock band mentored by a hip-hop producer? You get an album meshed with various genres where every song is interwoven with different beats, percussion and guitar melodies.  Their album “Night Visions” can be described as a cross between Lil’ Wayne’s lyrics and Coldplay’s electro beats!

The bands’ unique sound can be credited to the city of Las Vegas, where it was formed and developed its musical style.   Frontman Dan Reynolds explains he and his three band mates had to compete for attention against show girls and slot machines -forcing them to get creative.

Even the band’s name, Imagine Dragons, is creative. It is actually an anagram in which every letter stands for a phrase that only the band members know!

Made in the USA: Claflin Thayer &Co.

Posted by The E on February 20, 2013

Based in Berkley, CA, Claflin Thayer &Co., is a unique leather goods and accessories line created by leather goddess Liz Thayer. This all American family business was inspired by Liz’s father, Edward Claflin Thayer, who opened a leather shoe shop around 1820.Some of the most popular items the line carries are the adorable baby booties and “JoJo Lips” bags. Each leather hide has a history based on the animal it was taken from, no leather will be identical. Claflin Thayer &Co.’s website states that blemishes, scars and marks on the leather will only add to the uniqueness of the item.

Perfect for a night out, the “JoJo” lips are made in different colors and are also offered in metallic or suede. We definitely see these bags being used for carrying ID’s, phones and make-up on a night about the town!

Although the website only lists the “JoJo Lips” and baby booties for sale, Liz Thayer has made some other really cool items listed on her blog. In the past she has designed studded leather bags and jackets, this woman has an eye for fashion!

All items are designed, cut, and constructed on a made-to-order basis; make sure to check out some of Liz’s work.

On Trend: 3.1 Phillip Lim Fall 2013 RTW

Posted by The E on February 13, 2013

3.1 Philip Lim

Here’s a Fall 2013 RTW collection that has really stood out to us this Fashion Week – 3.1 Phillip Lim. Throughout the collection you’ll see a theme of  the ‘girlfriends’ of bikers, and we absolutely love this look! Lim also used rich texture in his designs, including quilting, which you’ll actually see in our upcoming fall collection too!  The collection also plays with a subtle, but sophisticated devil-may-care- color palette that we adore! One look we fell in love with is the look in the middle featured above – the outfit has a very cool, goth, warrior-look.

2013 Grammy Awards Highlights

Posted by The E on February 11, 2013

Last night’s 55th annual Grammy Awards was truly a night to remember, but here are our two favorite moments of the night.

Rihanna showed up in a stunning bold red gown by Azzedine Alaia. We can’t get enough of the color and the amazing train on the dress. Not to mention her gorgeous her ombré hair!

Rihanna at Grammy's
Justin Timberlake, who hasn’t released an album in seven years, gave a showstopping performance of his new single “Suit and Tie” with Jay-Z. JT looked as classy as ever! After the Grammy Awards performance, JT gave a post-Grammy at a sold out concert at the Palladium AND released a new track, Mirrors, from his new album “The 20/20 Project,” which is set to release on March 19.  We cannot wait to hear the rest of the album!
