Made in the USA: HOOPLA

Posted by The E on February 7, 2013

Georgia Hoop LA

Obsessed with your pets as much as we are? If you can’t physically take them with you everywhere than what better way to feel their presence than getting a custom embroidered portrait? This ready to hang piece shown above was created by Portland native, Nichole Alvarado, and can be purchased on Etsy.

Made from 100 percent cotton embroidery floss, the portrait of this bulldog was stitched onto off-white 100 percent canvas and stretched onto a 5” wooden embroidery hoop. To prevent this cute portrait from disintegrating, excess fabric was glued to the back for reinforcement and the stitching was covered with a soft felt circle.

Animal portraits are not the only type of hoops Nichole creates; she also embroiders a phrase or a word, wedding themed hoops, personalized kids hoops and even your favorite kind of doughnut! She can pretty much do it all and strongly encourages customers to email her with new ideas.
Check out more of Nichole’s work on her Etsy store, SHOPHOOPLA, or follow her blog here.

We are so excited to be featured in Vogue‘s Jeanius video of the week, a video guide to the smartest denim, with out Alice skinny in Chianti and Director of Special Events Sylvana Ward Durrett! Sylvana looks amazing in our Alice Skinnys and we love how she paired the jeans with a simple yet sophisticated blouse and heels. She pulls of a fresh, trendy and professional look, even if she may have borrowed outfit inspiration from Miranda Kerr! Watch the video here:

Who's Got The Habit: Rihanna

Posted by The E on February 4, 2013

This past month, Rihanna was spotted wearing our Alice Skinny jeans in Vermillion after leaving My Studio Nightclub in Los Angeles! She paired her skinny jeans with a black and white patterned jacket and animal print sneakers! Her plum lipstick definitely completes her fabulous look! The “Diamonds” singer will also be performing at the Grammys this Sunday with Bruno Mars and Sting- a very unlikely trio. We can’t wait to see this performance!

Bands We Love: The Lumineers

Posted by The E on February 1, 2013

Lumineers

Known for their catchy stomp-and-clap “Hey Ho” single which hit No. 3 on Billboard’s Hot 100 Chart, the Lumineers, never thought they would earn two Grammy nominations for Best New Artist and Best Americana Album.  “When things are good, there’s only one way to go: down. You start to be, ‘What’s going on right now? Grammys? Is this a joke?’” said drummer Jeremiah Fraites in a Rolling Stone interview.

Jeremiah and band leader Wesley Schultz became childhood friends in the spring of 2005 playing gigs in New York.  Before long, the two moved to Denver and met cellist Neyla Pekarek from a craigslist ad. Their 2011 self-recorded EP led to a tour attracting fans from all over the nation.

What’s great about these guys is that they’re not just known for their hit single, but for their entire album.  In most of the trio’s songs they give off this cheery vibe that will put anyone at ease.

This folk-rock-group isn’t afraid to wear their hearts on their sleeves allowing them to create songs that fans can relate to! They are a mix of front-porch-folk music spiced with a little soul and acoustic rock. It’s not so often a fresh faced band gets nominated for the Grammy’s after not being on the radar for long.   Make sure to also check out their performance at the Grammy’s!
