Simple Summer Classics: The White Button-Up

Posted by The E on May 31, 2013

Of course we’re beyond thrilled by Beaute’ J’Adore featuring HABITUAL Grace. But, in addition to the honor of being included in the “Perfect Denim” story, the chic styling choice of a white men’s dress shirt led to a new well of inspiration for crisp summer fashion.

Since its origins in Edwardian times (when the modern shirt was invented), legends like Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn adopted the menswear staple. While more recently women such as Alexa Chung have been known to sport the look, Lauren Hutton’s devotion to white button-ups is almost as iconic as the actress herself.

Part of  this classic’s tomboy charm is that it can pair with nearly any favorite denim option. Choose one of these HABITUAL whites for a head-to-toe vision that aggressively declares Memorial Day is behind us.

Peddler’s Creamery: Downtown Los Angeles

Posted by The E on May 30, 2013

We have been dying to try the artisanal ice cream bicycle shop, Peddler’s Creamery in Los Angeles.  The ice cream shop opened a few months ago just in time for summer and serves up delicious bicycle churned organic dairy and non-dairy ice cream.   Owner Edward Belden has been making ice cream for more than three years and previously sold it from the back of his bike before opening his shop at CicLAvia, the Hammer Museum’s Bike Night and other popular events.

The ice cream is made with organic, fair trade and local ingredients with 5% of profits will go to social and environmental causes.

Cheers to summer!

St. Anselm: Williamsburg, Brooklyn

Posted by The E on May 28, 2013

For weeks we have been trying to grab a bite at St. Anselm’s in Williamsburg but have been unsuccessful, and now we know why! This gem located right on Metropolitan Avenue has the taste of a steakhouse, but the feel of casual dining. It is known for its rib eye that is anywhere from 35-70 ounces and can easily feed 2 or 3 people, however; there are also delicious lamb, chicken or pork dishes if you are not in the mood for beef.

Not a meat lover? Not a problem! There are a decent amount of fish dishes for the seafood lovers. Owner Joe Carroll has pieced together a wine list that rivals the best in the city and will help in setting the mood. Next time you’re in the neighborhood be sure to stop by, start yourself off with a nice wine, a couple of the splendid appetizers like the grilled octopus or eggplant platter, share a rib eye or entrée of your choice, order some vegetables and sides like sautéed rants and Pan-Fried Mashed Potatoes & Truffle Oil , and go home feeling satisfied. There tends to be a decent wait (no surprise there!) so feel free to wait at Carroll’s Spuyten Duyvil next door and enjoy a nice, cold brew in the meantime. Enjoy!

White Denim for Memorial Day

Posted by The E on May 23, 2013

Memorial Day

Memorial Day is just around the corner, and you know what that means… white is back! Whether you believe the old-fashioned rule that white should only be worn from Memorial Day to Labor Day or you rock your white all winter long, it’s time to pull out your favorite white for the summer (or use this as a good excuse to buy a fresh, new pair)! Check out HABITUAL’s current white style offerings at

And let’s not forget why we celebrate this holiday- Memorial Day is a day to remember the fine men and women who have died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

Whatever your plans may be for the weekend, we wish you all safe travels!

A Walk in the Rain

Posted by The E on May 22, 2013

A new exhibit at The Museum of Modern Art in New York allows you to stay dry while walking through the rain.  Design group, Random International created this beautiful and interactive exhibition as a part of MoMA PS1′s “EXPO 1: New York” series.  The installation takes over an adjacent lot next to the museum and offers visitors the experience of controlling water. The falling drops pause when it detects a human body, although viewers will see a sheet of rain in front of and behind them, depending on how many people occupy the space.  Viewers are encouraged to think about the ecological challenges we are facing and the roles that science, technology and human ingenuity play in the environment as they stroll through the rain.

The “Rain Room” installation runs from May 12 to July 28.

Bands We Love: Matt + Kim

Posted by The E on May 21, 2013

We have been loving the sounds of Matt + Kim lately and wanted to be sure to share! The indie dance duo/couple formed in Brooklyn, New York in 2004 consisting of Matt Johnson (vocals, keyboards) and Kim Schifino (drums, vocals) is known for their DIY attitude toward music. They have released four studio albums to date: Matt & Kim (2006), Grand (2009), Sidewalks (2010) and Lightning (2012).

After the success of their first album, Matt & Kim signed with the FADER label releasing their next three. They gained popularity with indie fans over the years through their many outgoing tours. The duo, known for their energetic shows, wrote, recorded, and produced their last album in their Brooklyn home studio. Praised for the albums dynamic sounds, their single “Let’s Go” was performed live on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon prior to launching a 2012 headlining sold-out North American tour.

Our favorite song is “Daylight” which was was the first single from their second studio album Grand. The duo performed this song on August 26, 2009 on the Jimmy Kimmel Live! show. The song appears in the video game NBA Live 10 and is the only non-hip hop song on the soundtrack!  The lyrics are inspiring and upbeat ending with the line “And in the daylight I don’t pick up my phone because in the daylight anywhere feels like home.” Check out the quirky video here:

Memorial Day Weekend: Big Sur

Posted by The E on May 17, 2013

We are looking forward to the official Memorial Day start of summer this month and have been eyeing some weekend escapes. Big Sur evokes a relaxed and beautiful getaway destination, dramatically positioned along the Pacific Ocean. Ventana Inn & Spa founded by writer Lawrence A. Spector, is a luxury resort that specializes in escapism and on the top of our list. Also, Tablet approved, which we love!

Cedar-and-redwood cabins with stone fireplaces were designed to blend into and be at one with the landscape and the resort’s walking trails meander through forests teeming with deer, fox and wild turkeys.

The Big Sur shores below reveal a stretch of wild and unspoiled coastline with cedar-walled Japanese hot tubs that are open to relax under blue skies or starry nights.

Happy Summer!
