HABITUAL Obsession: MM6 x Opening Ceremony

Posted by The T on March 7, 2011

 MM6 by Opening Ceremony Jackets

Right now we would wear anything and everything from the new collaborative capsule collection between MM6 Maison Martin Margiela (one of our favorite lines) and Opening Ceremony (one of our favorite retailers).   Simple and multifunctional, the 20 pieces in the new collection are designed to transform into additional silhouettes. For example a outerwear piece that can be removed layer by layer, or a leather bag containing a portfolio and also a clutch. The only problem is that we don’t know if we have the patience to wait until September!

HABITUAL Obsession: Hermes Leather

Posted by The T on March 2, 2011

Hermes Evelyn III

Just have to share this story. A couple of us were visiting the mothership on Madison Avenue (open during renovation), and we overheard a young, well-dressed man with very little knowledge about the House of Hermes, trying to surprise his equally young girlfriend with a special gift. We should have minded our own business, but we couldn’t resist!  He wanted to know which bag was the most iconic, and the sales woman wasn’t telling the whole truth. She was trying to sell what was available versus what was not. After a quick conference we intervened.  After 30 minutes of Birkin vs. Kelly 101, we recommended the practical Evelyn III in a neutral color. Hermes just knows how to handle leather. It turned out that his girlfriend is a designer who loves timeless, chic, and functional luxury. Sounds like our kinda gal.

HABITUAL Obsession: South by Southwest

Posted by The S on February 23, 2011

We are eagerly counting down the days to South by Southwest 2011.  It’s less than a month away!  In anticipation, here is a great little video from Grace Potter, who performed at the festival last year:

It’s so refreshing to hear music with no studio adjustments, no editing, and no Auto-Tune.  Just some guitars, pill bottles, ice buckets, and raw talent!  At SXSW, it’s not unheard of to hear bands play music in random hotel rooms, in parking lots, or even in the trees.  The music festival runs from March 15 to March 20, but SXSW is actually a full week of events, including a tech conference and a Film Festival. We are hoping they add a fashion trade show so we can have an excuse to go every year.

HABITUAL Obsession: YSL Tribute Platform (in nude)

YSL Tribute Platform - Nude

We’re torn.  We really love this shoe, but only in the nude color. We wish it was never an “it” shoe. After looking at 188 images of celebrities in this YSL Tribute Platform Sandal, some of us are feeling a little nauseous. Hard to believe this “iconic” shoe has only been around since October 2007.  They keep producing it in every color imaginable.  Stop that!

Pros: You grow six inches instantly, legs feel a mile long. Surprisingly comfortable. Nude is the right color to freshen up your shoe collection this year. Looks amazing with the HABITUAL Audrey jean.

Cons: It was an “it” shoe.

HABITUAL Obsessions: Edith Head

Posted by The T on January 1, 2011

Edith Head is amazing. Perhaps the most iconic Hollywood costume designer of all time, and the model for the character Edna Mode in The Incredibles. Recently at the El Portal in North Hollywood, actress Susan Claassen made Edith come to life in front of audiences during her run of A Conversation with Edith Head.  The set was filled with original mementos from Edith’s estate archives, and Susan was dressed impeccably as the famed dressmaker.  She didn’t act, she simply spoke with all 90 of the guests, and the intermission free performance flew right by.  More info available on the show’s website.
