Make it a Habit: Radiant Orchid

Posted by The E on January 2, 2014

Named the color of 2014 by Pantone, Radiant Orchid plays to the current predilection for pastel with a nod to purple’s regal symbolism. We like how the muted take on the rich color—usually associated with royals and mystics—updates navy, camel and other more traditional staples with a softer hue. Seeing it in ice cream, hair and nature even inspired our “Calm” wash, currently available in Eve Hi Rise Skinny from Amazon and Chicago boutique Perchance.

Habit Forming: Kustaa Saksi's Hallucinations and Half-Dreams

Posted by The E on December 5, 2013

Inspired by his migraine-induced hallucinations, Finnish artist Kustaa Saksi’s turns more than just tapestry on its head with his gorgeous creations. His modern textile approach incorporates natural and man-made yarn using both traditional Jacquard techniques with non-traditional themes. The results transform his negative experiences into beautiful artworks, such as our favorites, “Arbor Vitae” (pictured), and “Hiding in Plain Sight.”

Habitual on Piperlime: Our VMAS-Inspired Look

Posted by The E on August 26, 2013

With fresh new Habitual merchandise (along with some of our signature styes) back on Piperlime just in time for fall, we couldn’t resist clicking through a few of the thousands of products on the site. The VMAs fresh in our minds, we took a page from Robin Thicke’s ensemble for a more subdued take on the concept, combining a pair of Habitual Elle Moto Skinnies in Licorice with BCBGMaxAzria’s striped blazer. Finished off with a white Michael Kors clutch and Derek Lam’s black flats in the must-have d’orsay style of the season, it’s a rock-and-roll look from head to toe—minus the Beetlejuice references.

Quote of the Day: Better to Dance

Posted by The E on July 8, 2013

“I think it’s better to dance rather than to march through life, don’t you?” -Yoko Ono

In honor of Yoko Ono’s recent book “Acorn,” the premiere of “Gasland Part II” on HBO tonight (part of her involvement in the anti-fracking movement), and the artist’s always-inspiring messages, we bring you this quote and image as a little post-Independence day reminder of how to celebrate freedom every day of the year.

Inspiration: Alber Elbaz

Posted by The E on June 18, 2013

Like other fans of all things glamorously fun, we’ve been awaiting Alber Elbaz’ collection for Lancome since hearing about the collaboration earlier this year. Now with its arrival this past weekend, welcome images of the chic packaging and the playful man himself have filled our browser.

Elbaz imagined a temporary collection that is pure fashion down to the thinnest detail. “The real theme running through the collection is eyes.” He explains, “and roundness forms… the bottles are so fabulously rounded that they were my inspiration. I wanted to create rounded shapes with a hint of humor.”

What better way to celebrate the fashion pairing than with an inspirational trip through the designs, patterns and references that make Lanvin and Elbaz tick? With the designer’s thinking on the limited-editions as a point of departure, we dove deep into his particular brand of style. From that unmistakable shade of pink to the flounces, flourishes and other fearless, poetic details that define a joyously unapologetic femininity, here’s a tribute to a true living legend.

Simple Summer Classics: The White Button-Up

Posted by The E on May 31, 2013

Of course we’re beyond thrilled by Beaute’ J’Adore featuring HABITUAL Grace. But, in addition to the honor of being included in the “Perfect Denim” story, the chic styling choice of a white men’s dress shirt led to a new well of inspiration for crisp summer fashion.

Since its origins in Edwardian times (when the modern shirt was invented), legends like Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn adopted the menswear staple. While more recently women such as Alexa Chung have been known to sport the look, Lauren Hutton’s devotion to white button-ups is almost as iconic as the actress herself.

Part of  this classic’s tomboy charm is that it can pair with nearly any favorite denim option. Choose one of these HABITUAL whites for a head-to-toe vision that aggressively declares Memorial Day is behind us.
