Balmain Fall 2012: Inspired By Fabergé

Posted by The E on July 30, 2012

Balmain Fall 2012

As you may know from our previous posts about the Surrealist movement being the inspiration for our Fall 2012 line, almost all of HABITUAL’s pieces are influenced and inspired by art. Another instance of art influencing fashion that HABITUAL truly admires is Balmain’s Fall 2012 collection, which was said to be inspired by Fabergé eggs, specifically Elizabeth Taylor’s. Peter Carl Fabergé, “Imperial Jeweler to the Tsars,” was best known for being the master goldsmith and jeweler for the Russian Royal family, as well as many other ruling families of Europe during the 19th and 20th century. Balman’s Fall 2012 line includes intricate details of pearls, golds and florals. Fashionista explains, “These pieces look as precious as Fabergé eggs, like they’ll warrant the undoubtedly exorbitant price tag that will be attached to them.” Balmain’s line is absolutely exquisite, and you can definitely Fabergé’s lavish artwork is definitely shown through.

And if you want to get a closer look at the inspiration behind Balman’s collection, Bowers Museum in Santa Ana, has Fabergé’s pieces on display in their “Fabergé: Imperial Jeweler to the Tsars” exhibit, which is going on now until January 6, 2013.

Color Inspiration: Red

Amalia in Vermillion

What color is sure to always make a statement? Red. From our earliest Alice in Vermillion that got us hooked on how the color pops on denim to one of our new fall favorites Amalia in Vermillion, we think that the brilliant red orange color vermillion denim is the perfect combination of statement and class. In its naturally occurring form, vermilion is actually mercuric sulfide, a toxic compound also known as “cinnabar,” luckily for us the dyes and paints of today are non-toxic. Take a look back and read about the origins of the eye catching color.

As our design team continued to experiment with and discover new shades of red, it resulted in one of our summer favorites Almas Hi Rise Skinny in Acid Red and this fall’s stunning Alice Skinny in Devil Red. We continue to create and come up with new combinations of red denim; ever wonder where our design team finds inspiration for all of these different shades of red? Take a look at our Pinterest page for an in-depth look at our design team’s “Color Inspiration: Red” board.

Made in the USA: Thalia Shorts

Posted by The E on June 27, 2012

4th of July in Thalia Shorts

The Fourth of July, one of our favorite holidays, is just around the corner and it’s the perfect excuse to buy a new ensemble in honor of the USA. Whether you’re taking a long weekend or just enjoying the mid-week break, we put together four stylin’ outfits with our Thalia shorts to keep you cool for that hot summer day, with just enough patriotic flair. And although you won’t actually be wearing an American flag (we hope), but an outfit that emulates it, we are proud to say that you’ll be wearing a product that is 100% Made in the USA.

So if you plan on spending your day at the beach or at a friend’s BBQ, pull off a casual yet chic day look with the Thalia short in Zen, a comfy “subtle nod to the flag” star-printed tank, paired with your trusty red TOMS and a floppy straw hat to keep your face safe from a long day in the sun. If you plan on heading to an evening party, pair our Thalia Zen shorts with a loose striped blouse, natural colored wedges and a nautical bracelet by another Made in the U.S.A. brand, Kiel James Patrick.

Our Thalia short in Rustic Pink has just enough dose of red to add a pop of color to any Independence Day outfit. Pair them with a navy blue striped sweater by The Row (Made in the USA), nude gladiator sandals and Shwood sunglasses (Made in the USA) for a sophisticated nautical look. If you plan to spend your evening watching the fireworks under the stars, the peplum top is definitely on trend right now and an easy evening transition with the Rustic Pink short. Grab a pair of blue wedges and a statement necklace to add to the festive look.

Haute “Catoure”

Posted by The E on June 6, 2012

Cat CalendarEvery morning, we look through our closet and pick out what to wear. Maybe it’s colored skinny jeans paired with an oversized tank for the perfect summer day, or a fancy dress for a night on the town. Of course you spend time to dress yourself, but have you ever stopped to think, “I wonder what my cat should wear today?” The New York-based fashion house United Bamboo apparently has and has taken it to a new level with their famous and very fashionable “Catclub” and Cat Calendars. Who knew that cats could out dress their owners? Take a peek at the new models in United Bamboo’s upcoming 2013 calendar. They certainly know how to own the “catwalk,” looking purrrfect!

On Trend: Essie's 2012 Summer Collection

Posted by The E on May 31, 2012

Every summer, we can’t wait to see Essie’s newest summer collection and this year they did not disappoint. From neon to pastel to a touch shimmer, they always offer fun new shades for everyone. We decided to pair our favorite colors with some of our favorite denim. What better way to show off your colorful new pedi than in sandals and pumps in your favorite pair of denim? Let us know what you think!

Habitual Denim/Essie 2012 Summer Collection

For a punch of color, we’d pair the Amaranth in Pure with a creamy carnation pink like “Off the Shoulder,” or  for more of a orange neon oriented look try the “Fear Or Desire” shade. And for a more tonal feel, the Harrison jean in Serene would look great with Essie’s  periwinkle with a touch of shimmer, “Bikini So Teeny”. Our Hayworth in Rustic Pink can easily be accented with a bronze-y bit of gold glitter color, like “All Tied Up”. And finally, the best way to show off your bright pin toes like “Cascade Cool” is by wearing your favorite pair of white denim like our Harrison jean in Snowfall. On Trend: Pastel Hair

Pastel Hair

Hair chalking has been around for a little while, and we found that it’s still on trend in pastels. We especially like Rackk and ruin‘s DIY attitude, suggesting picking up soft pastels from the art supply store to get the look. There is no need to spend over $30 at the salon for some fun hair color.  Try doing two colors on one strand, and styling with a fishtail braid or an up-do to spice up your hairdo every so often. We love Lauren Conrad’s “Cotton candy bun” up-do.

On Trend: Mint Green

Minty Green 1

If you haven’t noticed yet, this season is ALL about color. From Boardwalk Empire sets and costumes to Parisian Fashion House, Rochas‘, bag on Luisaviaroma, this 1920′s inspired mint green color is popping everywhere (just like our recent post on peach). We love this gorgeous and stronger update to a pastel green. This minty green has a little more life and punch to it than a normal pastel green.

On Trend: Peach & Neon Peach

Posted by The E on April 4, 2012

Almas Skinny Peach
From shoes to flowers, peach and its cousin neon peach are popping up everywhere these days. What we love about this orange incarnation is that it absolutely screams spring and summer. It’s a nice amount of added color without getting too in-your-face about it.  Our take on the trend is this peachy coral for our Almas Skinny Jean. The look was such a hit that we’re actually all sold out!

On Trend: Gucci Fall 2012 Ready-To-Wear

Posted by The E on March 28, 2012

Gucci Fall 2012 RTW

This latest women’s collection is all about confidence and romance, and we are loving the ‘dark glamour’ of Gucci this season! Frida Giannini’s Fall 2012 ready-to-wear collection features tons of super luxe velvet in dresses, skirts and pants, and a super-rich color palette with deep sea greens, blues and blacks. This collection is luxurious and understands print stories. Style.com reports the mood, not unlike at her men’s show last month, was dark—with rich tapestry jacquards, plush velvets, a hothouse floral printed on a ground of black, and a palette that revolved around plum, bottle green, espresso, and jet. We could go on, but basically we just LOVE it all! Here are some of our favorite looks.
